Love & Life
author: unknown
It hurts to love someone
and not be loved in return,
but what is more painful
is to love someone
and never find the courage
to let that person know how you feel.
Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people
before meeting the right one
so that when we finally meet the right person,
we will know how to be grateful
for that special gift.
Love is when you take away
the feeling, the passion, and the romance
in a relationship -- and find out
you still care for that person.
A sad thing in life is when you meet someone
who means a lot to you,
only to find out in the end
that it was never meant to be
and you just have to let go.
When the door of happiness closes,
another opens
but often times we look so long
at the closed door
that we don't see the one
which has been opened for us.
The best kind of friend is the kind
you can sit on a porch and swing with,
never say a word,
and then walk away feeling like
it was the best conversation you've ever had.
It's true that we don't know
what we've got until we lose it,
but it's also true that we don't know
what we've been missing until it arrives.
Giving someone all your love is never
an assurance that they'll love you back
Don't expect love in return;
just wait for it to grow in their heart
but if it doesn't,
be content it grew in yours.
There are things you'd love to hear
that you would never hear
from the person whom
you would like to hear them from,
but don't be so deaf as not to hear it
from the one who says it from his/her heart.
Never say good-bye if you still want to try
never give up if you still feel you can go on
never say you don't love a person anymore
if you can't let go.
Love comes to those who still hope
although they've been disappointed
to those who still believe
although they've been betrayed
and to those who still love
although they've been hurt before.
It takes only a minute 2 get a crush on some1,
an hour 2 like someone and a day 2 love some1
but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.
Don't go for looks; they can deceive.
Don't go for wealth; even that fades away.
Go for someone who makes you smile
because it takes only a smile
to make a dark day seem bright.
Hope you find the one that makes you smile.
There are moments in life
when you miss someone so much
that you just want to
pick them from your dreams
and hug them for real!
Hope you dream of that special someone.
Dream what you want to dream;
go where you want to go;
be what you want to be,
because you have only one life
and one chance to do
all the things you want to do.
May you have enough happiness
to make you sweet,
enough trials to make you strong,
enough sorrow to keep you human,
enough hope to make you happy
and enough money to buy me gifts.
Always put yourself in others' shoes.
If you feel that it hurts you,
it probably hurts the person, too.
A careless word may kindle strife;
a cruel word may wreck a life;
a timely word may level stress;
a loving word may heal and bless.
The beginning of love
is to let those we love be just themselves,
and not twist them with our own image
otherwise, we love only the reflection
of ourselves we find in them.
The happiest of people
don't necessarily have the best of everything;
they just make the most of everything
that comes along their way.
Happiness lies for those who cry,
those who hurt, those who have searched,
and those who have tried,
for only they can appreciate
the importance of people
who have touched their lives.
Love begins with a smile,
grows with a kiss
and ends with a tear.
The brightest future will always
be based on a forgotten past,
you can't go on well in life
until you let go of
your past failures and heartaches.
When you were born, you were crying
and everyone around you was smiling.
Live your life so that when you die,
you're the one who is smiling
and everyone around you is crying.
*wasn't that just the most
profound thing put into words?!*
The Five Great Lessons
that Life Teaches you...
author: unknown
1. Most Important Question
During my second month of nursing school,
our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a
conscientious student and had breezed through
the questions, until I read the last one:
"What is the first name of the woman who cleans
the school?" Surely this was some kind of joke.
I had seen the cleaning woman several times.
She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but
how would I know her name? I handed in my paper,
leaving the last question blank.
Before class ended, one student asked if the
last question would count toward our quiz grade.
"Absolutely," said the professor. "In your
careers you will meet many people. All are
significant. They deserve your attention and
care, even if all you do is smile and say 'hello'.
"I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned
her name was Dorothy.
2. Pickup in the Rain
One night, at 11:30 PM, an older African
American woman was standing on the side of an
Alabama highway trying 2 endure a lashing rainstorm.
Her car had broken down and she desperately needed
a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the
next car. A young white man stopped to help her -
generally unheard-of in those conflict-filled 1960s.
The man took her to safety, helped her get assist-
ance and put her into a taxi cab. She seemed to be
in a big hurry! She wrote down his address,
thanked him and drove away.
Seven days went by and a knock came on the man's
door. To his surprise, a giant console color TV
was delivered to his home. A special note was
attached. It read:
"Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway
the other night. The rain drenched not only my
clothes but my spirits. Then you came along.
Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying
husband's bedside just before he passed away.
God bless you for helping me and unselfishly
serving others."
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nat King Cole
3. Always remember those who serve
In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much
less, a 10 year old boy entered a hotel coffee shop
and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of
water in front of him. "How much is an ice cream
sundae?"
"Fifty cents," replied the waitress. The little
boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied a
number of coins in it.
"How much is a dish of plain ice cream?" he
inquired. Some people were now waiting for a table
and the waitress was a bit impatient.
"Thirty-five cents," she said brusquely. The
little boy again counted the coins.
"I'll have the plain ice cream," he said. The
waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the
table and walked away. The boy finished the ice
cream, paid the cashier and departed. When the
waitress came back, she began wiping down the table
and then swallowed hard at what she saw. There,
placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two
nickels and five pennies - her tip.
4. The Obstacle in Our Path
In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed
on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to
see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some
of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came
by and simply walked around it. Many loudly
blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but
none did anything about getting the stone out of the
way.
Then a peasant came along carrying a load of
vegetables. On approaching the boulder, the peasant
laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to
the side of the road. After much pushing and strain-
ing, he finally succeeded. As the peasant picked
up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying
in the road where the boulder had been. The purse
contained many gold coins and a note from the king
indicating that the gold was for the person who re-
moved the boulder from the roadway. The peasant
learned what many others never understand. Every
obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one's
condition.
5. Give of yourself
Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at
Stanford Hospital, I got to know a little girl named
Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease.
Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood
transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had
miraculously survived the same disease and had
developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness.
The doctor explained the situation to her little
brother, and asked the boy if he would be willing
to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate
for only a moment before taking a deep breath and
saying, "Yes, I'll do it if it will save Liz."
As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next
to his sister and >smiled, as we all did, seeing
the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face
grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the
doctor and asked with a trembling voice, "Will I
start to die right away?"
Being young, the boy had misunderstood the
doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his
sister all of his blood. Attitude, after all, is
everything.
Remember...
Work like you don't need the money.
Love like you've never been hurt.
Dance like nobody's watching.
Always Live Life to the Fullest
Anonymous, but submitted by Emma Fitton
Don't let go of hope.
Hope gives you the strength to keep going
when you feel like giving up.
Don't ever quit believing in yourself.
As long as you believe you can,
you will have a reason for trying.
Don't let anyone hold your happiness in their hands;
hold it in yours, so it will always be within your reach.
Don't measure success or failure by material wealth,
but by how you feel;
our feelings determine the richness of our lives.
Don't let bad moments overcome you;
be patient, and they will pass.
Don't hesitate to reach out for help;
we all need it from time to time.
Don't run away from love but towards love,
because it is our deepest joy.
Don't wait for what you want to come to you.
Go after it with all that you are,
knowing that life will meet you halfway.
Don't feel like you've lost
when plans and dreams fall short of your hopes.
Anytime you learn something new
about yourself or about life,
you have progressed.
Don't do anything that takes away from your self-respect.
Feeling good about yourself
is essential to feeling good about life.
Don't ever forget how to laugh
or be too proud to cry.
It is by doing both that we live life to its fullest.
My Special List
The Author is Unknown
I have a list of folks I know...
all written in a book,
And every now and then..
I go and take a look.
That is when I realize
these names... they are a part,
not of the book they're written in...
but taken from the heart.
For each name stands for someone...
who has crossed my path sometime,
and in that meeting they have become...
the reason and the rhyme.
Although it sounds fantastic...
for me to make this claim,
I really am composed...
of each remembered name.
Although you're not aware...
of any special link,
just knowing you, has shaped my life...
more than you could think.
So please don't think my greeting...
as just a mere routine,
your name was not...
forgotten in between.
For when I send a greeting..
.
that is addressed to you,
it is because you're on the list...
of folks I'm indebted to.
So whether I have known you...
for many days or few,
in some ways you have a part...
in shaping things I do.
I am but a total...
of many folks I've met,
you are a friend I would prefer..
never to forget.
Good Enough isn't Good Enough
author: unknown (at least to me)
submitted by: Mariangela
My child beware that "good enough"
it isn't something made of sterling stuff
its something anyone can do
it marks the many form the few
the claw which may escape the eye
and temorarily get by
shall weaken underneath the strain
and wreck the ship, car or plane
with "good enough" the car breaks down
and one falls short of high renown
my child remember and be wise
in "good enough" failure rest
and lose the one who gives the best
who stops at "good enough" shall find
success has left them far behind
for this is true of you and your stuff
only the best is "good enough."

There once was a pretty good student,
Who sat in a pretty good class
And was taught by a pretty good teacher,
Who always let pretty good pass.
He wasn't terrific at reading,
He wasn't a whiz-bang at math.
But for him education was leading
Straight down a pretty good path
He didn't find school too exciting,
But he wanted to do pretty well,
And he did have some trouble with writing,
And nobody had taught him to spell.
When doing arithmetic problems,
Pretty good was regarded as fine.
Five plus five needn't always add up to be ten,
A pretty good answer was nine.
The pretty good class that he sat in
Was part of a pretty good school.
And the student was not an exception,
On the contrary, he was the rule.
The pretty good school that he went to
Was there in a pretty good town.
And nobody there seemed to notice
He could not tell a verb from a noun.
The pretty good student in fact was
Part of a pretty good mob.
And the first time he knew what he lacked was
When he looked for a pretty good job.
It was then, when he sought a position,
He discovered that life could be tough.
And he soon had a sneaky suspicion
Pretty good might not be good enough.
The pretty good town in our story
Was part of a pretty good state
Which had pretty good aspirations,
And prayed for a pretty good fate.
There once was a pretty good nation,
Pretty proud of the greatness it had,
Which learned much too late,
If you want to be great,
Pretty good is, in fact, pretty bad.
Mad Girl's Love Song
A Villanelle by Sylvia Plath
Smith College, 1954
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead;
I lift my lids and all is born again.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
The stars go waltzing out in blue and red,
And arbitrary blackness gallops in:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
I dreamed that you bewitched me into bed
And sung me moon-struck, kissed me quite insane.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
God topples from the sky, hell's fires fade:
Exit seraphim and Satan's men:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
I fancied you'd return the way you said,
But I grow old and I forget your name.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
I should have loved a thunderbird instead;
At least when spring comes they roar back again.
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
CHARISMA
by Ren
An important element in gaining love is charisma.
If you wish to attract someone, observe your own
behavior and be careful not to fidgit, sway, or slouch.
Don't mutter, interrupt, or mumble.
Confidence is subconsiously monitored by potential mates.
Be aware of your own nervousness. Try to feel it as a
wall between yourself and the person you wish to attract.
Feel uneasy, and then banish that feeling by relaxing
into a sense of comfortableness. Worry and discomfort
will always work against you. Say to yourself that you
are going to enjoy yourself wherever you are and lose
that sense of urgency.
People who see you in a relaxed pose want to be around
you because somehow they think that you will relax them
too. One way to help someone relax is to refrain from
propositions, expectations, and enuendos. Instead use
humor. Never flood someone with your knowledge. Simply
accept them for who they are and save your judgements
and advice for yourself.
Listen to them and love them.
Lastly, start spending more time brushing your teeth
and grooming yourself. Image really does matter. Eat
better, exercise more, and read something. Take the time
to iron your clothing.
The three most attractive qualities in a person are:
confidence cleanliness and a very healthy constitution
forget the shape of your body and face.
If you have the three qualities above, you can attract
anyone.
A Vanished Friend
author: unknown
Around the corner I have a friend
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone
And I never see my old friend's face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell,
And he rang mine.
If, we were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.
"Tomorrow" I say "I will call on Jim"
"Just to show that I'm thinking of him."
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes, And
distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner!- yet miles away,
"Here's a telegram sir-"
"Jim died today."
And that's what we get
and deserve in the end.
Around the corner,
a vanished friend.

I woke early one morning
the earth lay cool and still.
When suddenly a tiny bird
perched on my window sill.
He sang a song so lovely
so carefree and so gay,
that slowly all my troubles
began to slip away.
He sang of far off places
Of laughter and of fun.
It seemed his very trilling,
brought up the morning sun.
I stirred beneath the covers,
crept slowly out of bed,
then gently shut the window
and crushed his f*cking head.
I'm just not a morning person.
When Tomorrow Starts Without Me
By: Unknown
When tomorrow starts without me,
And I'm not there to see;
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too;
But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,
And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.
But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye,
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.
I had so much to live for,
So much yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had.
If I could relive yesterday,
Just even for a while,
I'd say goodbye and kiss you
And maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realized,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
Would take the place of me.
And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.
But when I walked through heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne,
He said "This is eternity,
And all I've promised you."
Today for life on earth is past,
But here it starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day's the same day
There's no longing for the past.
But you have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did some things,
You knew you shouldn't do.
But you have been forgiven
And now at last you're free.
So won't you take my hand
And share my life with me?
So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For everytime you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.
Las Profundidades Del Mar
por James Dillet Freeman
*note: this poem IS in spanish, i'll put a
translation below it
El mar y yo conversamos
sin nunca decir palabra;
tenemos una conversacin
ms comprendida que escuchada.
Est hecha de silencios
tanto como de sonidos;
estoy seguro que tiene un significado
mstico y profundo,
pero necesito ms que palabras
para decirte lo que
las profundidades del mar dicen
a las profundidades del mar en m.
The Depths of the Sea
by James Dillet Freeman
*note again: this name doesn't sound too
hispanic so i think it was probably in english
before so if you have the original english one
do share
The sea and I converse
without ever saying a word;
we have a conversation
more understood than heard.
It's made of silences
as much as of sounds
I am sure that it's significance
is mystical and profound,
but I would need more than words
to tell you what
the depths of the sea tell
the depths of the sea inside me.
Untitled and Anonymous
(well, let's just say we have our qualms about
it's supposed author...)
Even the sun with its golden rays,
Reaches out to you at the end of the day,
To hold you in its warm embrace
And tenderly touches your beautiful face,
It covers you in its shimmering glow
To caress you gently before it goes,
Then it falls at last upon your lips
As if to give you a good night kiss,
So I tell you, I envy the sun,
For all the things which it has done
While all there is for me to do,
Is await the night so I can dream of you
Away
I sit and stare
wondering how i might get to you.
I've tried to...
many times before.
But i can't, I'm bound here...
by my insecurity, pride, and
the fact that you wouldn't care either way.
Sometimes you are right in front of me,
and yet you are so far away.
I wish these ties that bind me
could let me go
and I wish that my foolish mind
could let your memory go...
but neither one can
and i feel i'm fighting a losing battle
and there seems to be no reason
to go on this way...
So i recede
into my own self pity
and watch as you
ever so steadily
slip away.
To be remembered, Always
You've been such an influence
in my scattered little life.
Although you never realized it,
you meant the world to me...
It was you,
who treated me like a person,
when i didn't feel like one
and it was also u who lifted my spirits,
when they crashed into the ground
.
You changed my life
with the greatest of ease
You shared with me your secrets,
some of which never before told.
Things never worked out between us,
at least not the way i wanted it to.
I can't say i regret what i did,
but i can say i regret what i didn't do.
Despite that, u are still special 2 me
in my heart, u will always find a home.
You've left an imprint on my soul
and, I sincerely do hope...
that you might care for me,
the way i will always care for you.
Through the Looking Glass
She looks through the glass
and sees a distorted vision
apparently the rose colored fog
has finally been lifted.
For years she had focused
on all that was good
But now as she looks
she sees there is none
A blur of colors
is all she can see
what once was beauty
is now misplaced shapes
She looks at this figure
again and again
only to find the figure
staring right back at her.
A gasp is her only reaction
to things she sees
as she continues to do
just what she does best.
She knows she has a problem
she knows she has to stop
But nobody can change her
except for herself
A Lone Star
After twilight,
when the night is dark
the stars come out to play
they all forms clusters
usually...
except for one,
one lone star.
Not above the rest,
nor below the rest.
Hardly even visible to the naked eye
Just completely alone
and completely unnoticed...
Wandering aimlessly
or perhaps looking for something
that just isn't there,
another star, another cluster.
Despite my thoughts,
it remains alone...
and one can't help but wonder
if stars get lonely too.
